Truffle Therapy Serum

Filed under: Skincare — moonstruckinjersey @ 6:43 PM

I love trying new product – who doesn’t?!  There are so many potions available, some of them “speak” to you and others do not.  I have been lucky enough to find numerous products that I enjoy and I like to rotate them as I feel this keeps my skin on it’s toes.

One of my newest finds is Truffle Serum by Skin & Co.

a254716.001

This blend was created  in 1953 by Giuseppina Balestra and sold in her luxury boutique.  It became an instant hit with Hollywood super stars filming in Rome.  60 years later her grandson, Gabriel Balestra, working with one of Italy’s oldest universities, brought his grandmother’s formulas into today’s world.  The truffles are grown on the family’s farms in Umbria and they are the base of the truffle infused skincare.

I received two samples during the holidays and I was just about out of the serum I had been using, so I decided to give it a try with my evening skincare routine.  It felt like velvet on the skin and absorbed instantly.  The smell was delicious and when I got up the next morning, my skin was radiant.  I have been blessed with great skin, but radiant was not a word I would have ever used to describe it – until now.  Needless to say, I have been using it ever since.

My skin feels soft and the texture is very even, which allows make up (need to disclose that my foundation is a tinted moisturizer) to go on flawlessly.  I also use it on my neck before I put on a neck cream.  A moisturized neck is a younger looking neck, no matter what your age.

This is a more expensive product, but very little goes a long way.

The Italians do everything better, but of course, I am prejudice!

African Black Soap

Every winter, whether I lived in the Northeast or the South, I developed dry skin like everyone else.  I have now probably spent a thousand dollars trying to sooth and stop the dryness.

Some of the products were sticky and smelly, but worked – I’d rather suffer – and others smelled wonderful and absorbed quickly, but did absolutely nothing to help the dryness.

Two months ago I was reading an article about how African Black Soap was helpful for eczema.  I thought eczema or winter skin, dry is dry and feels and looks awful.  So…………

Nubian Heritage makes a line of products that I use and enjoy – body washes, body lotions and soaps – all natural.  I tried their African Black Soap about five weeks ago and had positive results with the first use forward.  No more dry, itchy skin and the scent is clean with a hint of sandalwood.

It is so good and my husband is hooked as well.

Find at:  www.sephora.com (or Trump Soho) $45.00

Details:

A moisturizing and calming treatment that leaves skin soft and smooth. You will notice instant hydration and suppleness.  The Advanced Moisture Complex, with hyaluronic acid, pulls moisture deep into skin cells, helping to soften and plump.

Use:

  • 1-2 times per week
  • apply thin layer to clean, dry skin
  • leave on for 5-10 minutes
  • remove with warm water
  • follow with moisturizer

Bottom Line:

This is the second product recommended to me by the esthetician at the Trump Soho Spa.  I use it 2x per week after using the Glycolic Polisher.  Because I own and faithfully use NuFace, the esthetician told me to use Quench in place of the gel normally used with NuFace and it would enhance both treatments.  The NuFace absolutely glided beautifully during the treatment and the current produced by the NuFace allowed the mask to penetrate the skin quickly and deeply as well as “lift” my face.  It was wonderful!

If you all have a chance, please Google NuFace, and know that it delivers.

Back to Quench…another Kate Somerville product that I really like more and more as I continue to use it.  My skin feels refreshed, hydrated and amazingly soft.  It also looks beautiful.

Expensive, yes, but it works and a little goes a very long way.

Kate Somerville Micro Glycolic Polisher

Find at (or Trump Soho):  www.sephora.com, $90.00

s1167071-main-hero

Details:

A treatment peel that resurfaces and restores skin.  It uses lactic and glycolic acids to promote skin cell turnover without abrasion.

To Use

– 2-4 pumps (I use 2) on a cotton pad and apply to clean, dry skin

– leave on for 2-5 minute

– remove with warm water,  follow with moisturizer ( if using in AM, also apply sunscreen as the product may increase skin sensitivity to the sun and  possibility of sunburn)

The Bottom Line:

This product was one of two recommended to me by an esthetician at the Trump Soho Spa.  I told her that I did not use this type of product as no matter which line I had tried, I always had sensitivity and sometimes real discomfort.

Kate Somerville is the line used at the spa and the esthetician said she had recommended the Glycolic Polisher to many of her clients with the same issue I was describing and that all of them had good results.  I love using new product so I gave it a try and I love it.  I have had no sensitivity and my skin is amazingly smooth.  I have some very small, hardly noticeable (except by me) bumps on my forehead, well actually, I had because they are gone after three weeks.  I am hoping that after continued use that the slight sun damage on my face will lighten.  I also love the fact that my foundation goes on beautifully and just looks like dewy skin.

Expensive product, but worth it because it actually works.

I will be writing soon about the second product that was recommended and I purchased to use along with the Glycolic Polisher.

Argan Oil

I have been using oil on my skin for years.  I started with an oil from Decleor that I found in Sephora over 12 years ago and I was hooked when I saw how my skin responded.  When Argan Oil was introduced I tried a travel size bottle and knew that we would have a committed relationship.

From http://www.josiemarancosmetics.com – $48.00

What It Is

Argan Oil is an all-natural, 100% organic, chemical-free beauty marvel that really works. Produced from the Argan tree in semi-deserts of Morocco, Argan Oil has been used by Moroccan women for centuries for its nutritional and cosmetic benefits.

Commonly referred to as “liquid gold” or “The Gold of Morocco”, Argan Oil is an incredibly rich source of Vitamin E and essential fatty acids. It has astonishing healing, conditioning and anti-aging properties to keep your skin and hair nourished and revitalized and to keep you looking beautiful from head to toe. Argan Oil is not only a “super food” for the skin and hair but for the whole body. Having twice as much Vitamin E as olive oil including vital antioxidants, Argan Oil plays a major role in a healthy diet and is commonly used in traditional Moroccan recipes.

What It Does

This multi-tasking beauty can be used to:

  1. Soften dry skin — Argan Oil’s naturally high concentration in Vitamin E and essential fatty acids work to alleviate dry skin and rough patches.
  2. Help minimize fine lines — Smooth Argan Oil over skin and under your eyes for intense moisture and to reduce appearance of fine lines.
  3. Help heal acne blemishes and scarring — With regular use, Argan Oil is widely reported to heal existing acne blemishes, prevent the occurrence of new breakouts and help reduce scarring.
  4. Soften cuticles — Massage a few drops of Argan Oil onto your cuticles to soften and condition.
  5. Treat split ends — Rub oil between your hands and smooth through hair to minimize fly-aways and treat split ends.
  6. Give skin a fresh, youthful look — Argan Oil easily absorbs into skin to give you a youthful, dewy glow.
  7. And it’s safe enough for use on your baby — 100% pure, organic Argan Oil is safe enough to use on your baby’s delicate skin to help treat dryness and soothe redness. You can also smooth over your stomach during pregnancy to help prevent stretch marks.

I would add to this list.  We have a pug, Luciano, and pugs have facial folds.  If these folds are not kept clean they start to smell, and worse, become infected.  I use  Agran Oil on Luciano’s facial folds and it does a wonderful job of keeping the folds clean, moisturized and healthy.  Luciano actually likes his morning facial.

Also, a drop on a q-tip removes any makeup application mistake without having to start all over again.

I use multiple products from one skincare line, which I think is a little unusual given the amount of products available, but these products definitely work for me so I am faithful to the brand; however, on those evenings when I am too lazy or too tired to go through the whole routine, after cleansing, of applying serum, eye cream, face moisturizer and neck cream or in the mornings when I am feeling rushed………..I reach for Argan Oil and know that my skin will be protected and moisturized in one step.  The oil is not heavy or greasy, it absorbs instantly and foundation goes on beautifully.

In the Summer I often use it in place of my favorite serum, moisturizer and eye cream  during the day because, with the heat and humidity, I don’t like the feel of multiple products on my face.

You will find that it fits perfectly into whatever your skincare routine is and whatever product line you are using.  It is that versatile.  All you need is 2-3 drops on clean skin and you are all set.  Don’t forget the neck and decollete and use a dropper full when you get out of the shower on still damp skin as well.

Don’t be afraid to use oil on your skin.  It will balance your skin so it is perfect for all skin types.

Trying new things.  Have fun.

Peace

Eve Lom

Filed under: Skincare — moonstruckinjersey @ 10:01 PM

Today I would like to introduce you to one of my favorite skin care products, Eve Lom Cleanser.

The cleanser is made of essential oils and cocoa butter.  It melts away makeup and grime and leaves your skin feeling clean and hydrated.  Muslin clothes that are made to go with the cleanser wipe away the makeup, etc and exfoliates at the same time.  It also may be used for eye makeup removal, even the most long lasting mascara dissolves beautifully.

You can purchase at spacenk.com or qvc.com.  You will also find at higher end department stores.  I always purchase this product at qvc.com as they have the best price, $68.28, and this includes both cleanser and four muslin clothes.  If purchased separately the cleanser would be $80.00 and the clothes $22.00.  As you can see, it is a great deal at QVC.

Cleansing is a little different then what we are normally used to, but I think you will enjoy the process and the way your skin feels after cleansing.

  • Fill your sink with hot water and immerse the muslin cloth.
  • Massage a small amount of cleanser onto your face and neck.
  • Squeeze off cloth and hold close to your face and neck for a few seconds.  The heat helps open the pores so the product can work it’s magic.
  • Fold the cloth into a square and use in small, circular movements to remove all the cleanser.
  • The cloth exfoliates the skin and leaves it feeling amazing!

Your skin is now ready for your favorite serums and moisturizers.

Do not use the clothes more then twice before washing.  I rotate mine out with every use.

You should use this cleanser at least twice a week.  I mix it up with other products that I will discuss at a later time.

I love the way my skin feels and looks.  I am sixty years old and have great skin and no wrinkles  because I have always taken care of my face. You never have to look your age, but you MUST put in some time and effort to keep your complexion looking beautiful.

I hope you give the product a try.  I know that this cleanser is pricey, but this is what I do……..get yourself a mason jar and label it skincare.  Empty your wallet every week of change and small bills, if you can.  You will be surprised at how quickly it adds up.  So, you can try different or favorite products without hitting the budget.

Peace
